James Douglas Orton
James Douglas Orton (Ph.D., University of Michigan) teaches Strategy Formation Processes and Strategy Implementation Processes in the UNLV MBA program. He started teaching undergraduate courses in 1983, MBA courses in 1990, doctoral
courses in 1993, and executive education courses in 1995. Before coming to UNLV, Dr. Orton studied and taught at Brigham Young University, University of Texas at Austin, University of Michigan, Boston College, HEC Paris Graduate Business School, and MIT's
Sloan School of Management. Dr. Orton is an expert on strategy-making processes and strategy implementation processes in loosely coupled networks, with a specific focus on the U.S. national security community and high-technology firms. He has
studied strategy-making processes in the Cuban Missile Crisis, the Post-Watergate Reorganization of U.S. Intelligence, and the Post-Cold War Reorganization of U.S. Intelligence, including the new War on Terrorism. He has also studied strategy-making
processes at Evans & Sutherland, Microelectronics and Computer Technolog Corporation, SEMATECH, Digital Equipment Corporation, Hewlett-Packard, ST Microelectronics, and the European mobile commerce industry.
